A fan get's a high 5 from Grace Potter before she takes the stage

Clearly one of the best things about living in Steamboat Springs is the Free Summer Concert Series.  The series was conceived by John Waldman of Great Knight Productions and Joe Khobudi of All That Jazz back in 1990 and started out on the lawn of the downtown courthouse on Lincoln Avenue.  I remember seeing the Spin Doctors in the summer of 1998 and thinking – this is a small series with some really big music.  As people heard about the great free music in Steamboat the series grew and when the crowd was overflowing into the streets, the series found a new larger home at both Howelson Hill in downtown Steamboat and the base of the Steamboat ski area.

Now in it’s 20th season, the series seriously ROCKS, with amazing line ups that have the town talking all spring in anxious anticipation of the summer series to begin.  Artists that have previously performed on the series include: Michael Franti and Spearhead, Susan Tedischi, Big Head Todd and the Monsters, Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, Keb Mo, and just last week, Grace Potter and the Nocturnals. The series is a finely tuned production that attracts thousands of locals and out of towners to enjoy one of the best free music series in the country.  How lucky we are!

This Friday, July 22 catch the Freddy Jones Band at 5:30pm and catch up with everyone in town!

The series serves beer and food, so bring you picnic blankets or lawn chairs and kick off the weekend right!
